Government Raises Fuel Prices by Up to Rs. 4.07

The government has announced another hike in fuel prices, effective October 1, 2025, adding further strain on people already struggling with rising living costs.

As per the revised rates, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs. 4.07 per liter, reaching Rs. 268.68, while diesel has gone up by Rs. 4.04 per liter, now priced at Rs. 276.81.

Officials stated that the adjustments were made due to fluctuations in international oil markets and the impact of the exchange rate. They explained that such revisions are necessary to manage energy imports and ensure stability in fuel supply.

The rise in prices is expected to push up transportation and logistics costs, as diesel is the primary fuel for trucks and buses. Economists warn that this could trigger an increase in the prices of essential goods, further burdening households.

Citizens have expressed concern over the frequent hikes, saying the changes directly impact their monthly expenses. However, the government maintains that these measures are unavoidable in order to cope with financial pressures and ongoing energy challenges.
