The Punjab government has unveiled plans to construct a new airport in Lahore to accommodate the city’s increasing air travel demand and reduce congestion at the existing Allama Iqbal International Airport.
Officials stated that the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has pinpointed a potential site for the project near Ravi City, close to the M-3 Motorway. The proposed location lies about 30 kilometers from the current airport, making it a strategic choice for future growth and expansion.
The initiative is currently in its consultation and planning stage, with discussions ongoing regarding construction costs, funding mechanisms, and potential partnerships. Authorities are considering multiple financing options, including public-private collaborations, to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability.
According to officials, the new airport will significantly ease air traffic at Lahore’s existing airport, which already serves millions of passengers annually. It is also expected to generate thousands of employment opportunities, promote tourism, and attract both domestic and international investment to the province.
Although no official budget or timeline has been announced yet, the project aligns with Punjab’s broader vision to modernize infrastructure and enhance regional connectivity.
If approved, the proposed airport could emerge as one of Lahore’s most transformative infrastructure developments in the coming years.
