The Punjab government has unveiled a landmark housing scheme to deliver 57,000 affordable homes across 21 districts, with the goal of making quality housing accessible to low- and middle-income families.
According to the Punjab Housing Department, the project will be developed on government-owned land under a five-year plan. In the first phase, 41 sites have already been identified for the construction of 2,000 housing units.
A Housing Department spokesperson explained that the initiative aims to ease the housing shortage by offering deserving citizens residences on easy installment plans. The project is being launched in collaboration with the World Bank and private sector investors to ensure financial sustainability and smooth execution.
“The government is dedicated to providing affordable yet modern housing facilities. All basic amenities, including water supply, sanitation, electricity, and road access, will be available to residents,” the spokesperson stated.
To ensure quality, strict monitoring and inspection mechanisms will be in place throughout the construction process. Authorities also stressed that transparency and accountability will be maintained at every stage.
The Housing Department confirmed that the plan will soon be presented to the provincial cabinet for formal approval, marking a major step toward implementation.
This initiative is part of Punjab’s broader vision to address urban housing shortages while boosting economic activity through public-private partnerships. Officials believe the project will not only provide shelter to thousands of families but also generate employment opportunities in construction and related industries.
